Tornado Strike

Rhodes City was struck by a mini-tornado on the morning of December 7. Damage was confined to the loss of part of a sports centre roof in the New City area and some broken shop windows in the Old City. No injuries were reported, though it is a fair bet that the large number of wind chimes on sale in the Old City's tourist shops caused a mass outbreak of tinnitus among those in the area at the time.

Akrotiri Excavation

No word yet on when the site will reopen. The Minoan era excavation was closed after part of the new site roof collapsed in September 2005, killing one tourist and injuring another five. It is now certain that the site will not reopen until the new roof is fully completed - and it is anyone's guess when that will be.
